Last Reminders - Primary Program

It's almost here - our annual Primary Program!

We hope that you are excited to see all the children have learned so far this year.  They have been working very hard practicing and preparing.  It is also a great opportunity to share what they have learned with their friends, teachers, and neighbors.  We still have lots of invitations available.  If you would like some, just contact the sister missionaries or Sarah Stevens.

For the day of the program, just a few reminders:
  • Please take your child to the bathroom before the program starts.
  • Remind your child to look up and speak slowly and clearly - perhaps have them look at you in the audience while they say their part at the podium.
  • During the open house, parents will be responsible for watching their children, so please wait for your children to come to you after the program before moving back to the open house area.
  • After the open house, all children will go to the Primary room for the third hour, and nursery children need to be taken to their small classrooms.
Thank you for all of your help!

Getting Ready for the Primary Program

All right, Primary families!  It is that time of year again!

Our Primary Program is coming up on September 28th, and we are so excited to have your kids share all that they have learned so far this year!

All of the individual parts your children have in the Primary Program have been emailed out, so if you haven't received yours yet, just let Sarah Stevens know and we will get a copy sent to you as soon as possible.  Please help your child practice their part so they will feel confident and ready for the program.  Also, please try to be at church the next two Sundays, as we will be practicing the program extensively and need everyone there to present their parts.

As part of practice for the Primary Program, your child will be staying in the chapel after sacrament meeting for the next two Sundays so we can show them their seating arrangements.  They will NOT be going to the Primary room or their classrooms.  Pickup at the end of church will be from the cultural hall.

Nursery parents - you will bring your nursery child to the Primary room after sacrament meeting.  Since Primary will be meeting in the cultural hall, the nursery is moving to the Primary room for the second hour.  You will still pick up your nursery child from their classroom at the end of the third hour as normal.

That pretty much covers it!  Just keep an eye out for the Primary invitations that will be coming home with your child on Sunday.  We look forward to sharing the program with all of our family and friends!

Back-to-School Updates

For those of you new to the newsletter, blog, and the Leon Springs Ward Primary, welcome!  We have just a few announcements and dates to help you plan things out for the start of the school year.

First of all, as part of the Leon Springs Ward Vision we have been sponsoring a summer scripture reading challenge for all of our Primary children.  We have sent home two different reading charts (to print them off at home, just click here or here) to encourage your child to read their scriptures daily.  It is a great time to finish those charts so they can collect their prize, and we are happy to continue handing out prizes in September for those who complete them.

September is also the month for our Primary Program!  The program will be performed in sacrament meeting on Sunday, September 28th.  Invitations will be passed out in a couple of weeks so you can share them with friends, family, and neighbors.  We will be practicing in the overflow/gymnasium portion of the building for the two Sundays prior to the program, so please be on the lookout for those changes in where you drop off and pick up your Primary child.

Finally, Cub Scouts will pick up again with the start of school!  Dens will begin meeting weekly starting the first week in September.  For the latest information and scheduling, please see our online Scouting page.

We hope you all had a great summer, and we'll see you on Sunday!

Scripture Reading Challenge

As part of the Leon Springs Ward Vision, we are sponsoring a scripture reading challenge for all of our Primary children.  We have sent home a scripture reading chart (to print one off at home, just click here) to encourage your child to read their scriptures daily.

Daily reading could mean reading for 5 minutes, it could be reading a chapter - the amount is something you can decide as a family.  And for every day that your child reads their scriptures, they can mark off one of the squares in the chart.

Once the chart is completed (30 days of scripture reading - woohoo!), they can bring the chart back to Primary and receive a prize!

Scouting Updates

For those of you with children in the Cub Scout program, we've made some updates to the Scouting page of the Primary website.  Some of these updates include upcoming events and links to Pack documents.

Most important is a notice about the next Pack Committee Meeting.  All leaders and at least one member from each Scout's family is strongly encouraged to attend, as we will be planning the next Pack meeting and making leader and family assignments for many upcoming events.

Pack 585 Committee Meeting
Sunday, June 8th at 4:00p
Jenkins' home in Lost Creek

This is a great chance to get updated on all of the Scouting plans before everyone scatters for the summer!

And if you would like to view, subscribe to, or copy events from the Scouting calendar, please go to our Scouting page or view the calendar directly at https://www.google.com/calendar/embed?src=t94731urt4da0cnrvbqcce2v9g%40group.calendar.google.com.

Thanks!

Location Changes

Starting April 27th, there will be a few changes to the locations of classes meeting third hour.  The biggest change is that Nursery will be meeting in four separate classrooms during the third hour.  This means that you will still drop off your nursery child in the third overflow at the end of sacrament meeting, but your child will need to be picked up from the classroom.  The classrooms that Nursery will be using are located on the West side of the building by the Boerne Ward bishop's office, and the room numbers are 101, 102, 103, and 125.  Please see the Nursery leaders for your child's exact assignment.

Due to this new Nursery arrangement, three of the Senior Primary classes will be moving classrooms during the third hour.  Valiant 10/11 will meet in Room 120 by the Young Women's room.  Valiant 9 will meet in Room 115 by the Family History room, and Valiant 8 will meet in Room 112 by the kitchen.

This arrangement will allow the Elder's Quorum and High Priests to use the second and third overflow for their third hour meetings.  Feel free to contact us if you have any questions.

Happy Easter!

During this Easter season, we wanted to take a moment to express how grateful we are for the sacrifice of our Savior Jesus Christ.  Because of Him, we have been provided the gift of resurrection and eternal life through His Atonement and resurrection.  He lives, and we are thankful for this joyous knowledge given to us through the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Happy Easter to you and your family!

Love, the Leon Springs Primary Presidency
